The History of the Yurt - Chapter 7
I know the building of the masonry stove only takes four days to build but you will soon see why I think it needs its own chapter. The chapter actually begins with the Volunteers for Peace. Cesar and Adrian, along with David, built the foundation for the massive brick stove. The process was incredible and the mess was well worth it.
Unfortunately, we weren’t done. Originally David said we might need an eight inch stove pipe, however there was a possibility it might work with a six inch pipe. The old stove had a six inch stove pipe and to change to an eight inch would take work, not to mention purchasing more pipe. The heater not only needed more draft but also the chamber needed some alteration. This masonry stove was such a challenge because of the restrictions and I really thank David for his persistence. This statement of thanks is in hindsight of course. I have to tell you what was said at the time. “David, I thought you said four days, this is ridiculous and it’s getting cold”. David replies, “Stop right there, do you think I’m enjoying this, I have my life to live”. After realizing he was right, there was nothing to do except continue.
